About NY Immigration Lawyers
NY Immigration Lawyers provides free information, samples, templates, news, and other resources to the public. I, Joseph Caraccio, run this site and encourage other immigration lawyers to feel free to use our website as a helpful tool in their practice. This website has a wealth of FREE resources for immigrants and immigration lawyers. However, hosting and updating this website is not free. I pay for that out of pocket.
y legal practice is focused on helping immigrants obtain legal status in the United States and defending those who face removal (deportation).
Most of my current caseload involves the representation of individuals in removal/deportation proceedings. I represent many clients that have been living in the United States for the majority of their life but have been convicted of, or are currently facing, criminal charges. My clients find themselves in immigration court for criminal charges ranging from minor traffic infractions to serious federal felonies involving drug trafficking, money laundering, and even attempted murder. However, many of my clients have no criminal records and are facing immigration issues based solely on the location of their birth.
I am extremely passionate about my work because I believe our Government should treat all people equally regardless of where they were born and that our laws should not be construed or enforced to result in the senseless separation or destruction of immigrant families. I was born and raised in New York City, a city built by immigrants, and one that proudly displays the 305 foot-tall Statue of Liberty welcoming immigrants in our harbor. So I fight hard for my clients in the hope that they may have an opportunity to pursue the same American dream through which so many earlier immigrants have prospered.
I volunteer with the Safe Passage Project, providing legal assistance to unaccompanied minors that were arrested by immigration authorities entering the US. These brave young children, fleeing narco-violence and extreme poverty, journey for months, alone, through hundreds of miles of mountains and deserts to get to be reunited with family in the US.
I graduated from New York Law School with a Public Interest Certificate, an honor awarded to students that demonstrated dedication to public service. While studying at New York Law School I volunteered with the Unemployment Action Center, representing individuals that lost their jobs and were wrongfully denied unemployment benefits. I also volunteered with the Street Law Program, mentoring 6th graders at a middle school in the Bronx and teaching them about the legislative process and their constitutional rights. I had the privilege of serving as the President of the Federalist Society’s New York Law School Chapter for two years. As President I was honored to have had the opportunity to travel around the country meeting members of Congress and Supreme Court Justices.
Prior to attending law school I lived in Mexico City (La Condesa) briefly, studying Mexican Culture and Art History at Universidad Iberoamericana.
